Why it is like this
The pocket is cut 2 mm wider than an ICAO-standard passport so the booklet slides in without bowing the cover. The two card slots sit on the opposite panel, which keeps the closed article flat rather than wedge-shaped.
Nothing is glued along the spine. The fold is a skived channel in the leather itself, so it creases where it is meant to and does not delaminate.
Natural marks are not faults
Grain varies across a hide. Growth wrinkles, healed insect marks, range scars and shade differences between panels are characteristics of the material and are not grounds on their own for a defect claim. Every article is still covered by the ordinary 30-day return if you simply do not want it.
