Why it is like this
In a queue you have one hand. A vertical hinge means the folio opens against your palm and stays open there, instead of needing a second hand to hold one half.
Paper goes in portrait, which is also how a boarding pass and an arrival card are printed.
Natural marks are not faults
Grain varies across a hide. Growth wrinkles, healed insect marks, range scars and shade differences between panels are characteristics of the material and are not grounds on their own for a defect claim. Every article is still covered by the ordinary 30-day return if you simply do not want it.
